Currently celebrating my fellow queens on this lovely Sunday, but let’s also admire the stunt that really made this such a marketer’s playground. None other than the Fearless Girl.

Kristen Visba built the small bronze statue for State Street Global Advisors that quickly became a catalyst for cultural conversations around the world. Visba’s statue was bold. It stared down the bull on Wall Street. It won more awards than I bet you’ll read. (But, I’ll let you know it swept 2017’s Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity with four Grand Prix awards.)

It even faced critics. Of course male, the creator of the ‘Charging Bull’ statue that the Fearless Girl stares down, Arturo Di Modica claimed that she fundamentally corrupted the artistic integrity of his bull by being a publicity stunt. What? Hello, that’s part of the artistry of this beautiful piece. The stunt is the message and the art. Yet, as all women do, the Fearless Girl faced scrutiny and judgment. She persevered and prevailed. She became a permanent fixture in New York despite the fact it was planned to be a temporary art piece.

She’s both an inspiration and a reminder. She inspires us and celebrates progress while also reminding us of how much there is to go. So, happy International Women’s Day. To my fellow women, stand tall and be fearless.
