This past Wednesday we watched a historic inauguration that saw a glass ceiling shatter. A concrete ceiling crumble. A bamboo ceiling split. We have the first woman, first Black, first South Asian vice president.

Madam Vice President Kamala Harris. I cried lol. Did you? Maybe not, but let me try you out against this spot by Girl Up in partnership with Refinery29 and Ogilvy.

Girl Up is a gender equality and leadership initiative from the United Nations Foundation. They worked with Refinery29, Oglivy, and volunteer photographers and videographers who shot the piece in around 30 different US households. Editing happened immediately as the spot was released later Wednesday night.

Simone Oliver, Refinery29’s global editor in chief, remarked in a statement, “I’m not naive to think the swearing in of Madam Vice President Kamala Harris was the antidote for a nation in need. It was about representation and showing our girls what’s possible, and that possibility offers hope.”

This was a beautiful moment. A toast to Madam Harris, the female leaders who helped to get her there, and the girls ready to be the next president of the United States.
