As with 2020, I’m over the recaps of 2020. We learned; we don’t need to relive. Instead of my annual recap of the year, let’s look to 2021.

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Now, I won’t be making any predictions for 2021 either. If we learned anything from this year, it’s to stop trying to predict things. How many times have you heard the word “unprecedented” in 2020? (Admittingly a few times if you’ve read this blog lol.) Rather, let’s look at 10ish hopes I have for 2021.

Uno:
Please make sure we continue to enjoy the little things and the moments we have together with friends and family. With the vaccine around the corner, we should be able to enjoy each other’s company soon. I hope we never take that for granted.

Dos:
I need continued effort to encourage diversity, tackle the tough conversations, and make policy changes that attack systemic racism. Don’t let it be empty words and promises. Continue to be self-aware and listen.

Tres:
The government will… jk we all know that not much is going to change there. Still slow, still fighting, still a bit of a mess. Yet still so intriguing.

Cuatro:
Let’s always cheer on healthcare workers and those on the frontline. No, there hopefully won’t be fear of a virus for doctors, nurses, grocery store employees, or those delivering your endless Amazon packages. But, their job is f**king hard. That won’t change.

Cinco:
People were so creative in how they pivoted due to the virus. Necessity is the mother of invention. Let’s not lose that ingenuity.

Seis:
To that point, I want us to continue to manifest and seek out our own happiness. Finding external sources of happiness was harder this year. It forced us to look at the small things or create it ourselves (like my new art blog). We can self-create our own happiness next year too.

Siete:
In a time of so much chaos, many took time to prioritize their mental health and practice self-care. We’re still important in 2021. We still need that prioritization.

Ocho:
Can we stop using “insight,” “innovation,” and “empathy” as spineless buzzwords? Let’s make them mean something next year.

Nueve:
Your knowledge and creativity are your most valuable assets. When sh*t hits the fan, you will always have them to rely on. Let’s make sure they’re never underutilized.

Diez:
A continued emphasis on supporting your community needs to stay in 2021.

Once:
Expect the unexpected. Hahaha yeah, you’re right. I won’t go there.

I heard this in a podcast from June, but 2020 is like the ex-partner we all needed. It’s the tipping point you needed to make a change. Whatever broke your heart allowed you to get out of it. It could have stayed how it was, miserable. Now we’ve been woken up. It forced us to face our broken reality and work to make changes. The process sucks. I know. It’s absolutely not easy. I also know our society is strong enough to handle it. Things can only go up from here. I’m excited for all the hope that 2021 brings.

See ya next year!
